Install or update Libreoffice on Ubuntu and Derivatives


LibreOffice is a free and open source office suite, developed by The Document Foundation. 




If you are using Ubuntu 14.04 Libreoffice will come pre-installed , however this is not the latest version. To update to the latest version use the following commands in a terminal (ctrl+alt+t) :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade 
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade 

If you are running an Ubuntu based Distro and Libreoffice is not installed by default , open a terminal and copy paste the following command :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice

To speed up libreoffice follow this guide :
-Open up Libreoffice Writer
-Click Tools -> Options
-Click Memory
-Increase the Graphics Cache ->Use for Libreoffice value( try 128 MB and increase if needed)
-Increase Memory per object (try 20 MB to begin with , increase if necessary )
-Click OK
